Please post error reports regarding only what is currentlyorimminently on the Main Page. For general discussion about the Main Page, please use its talk page.

Most issues relating to national variations of the English language have already been discussed here at length: Wikipedia does not prefer any national variety of English. Although Wikipedia strives for writing common to all varieties of English, some spelling, grammar or terminology it uses may be different or otherwise absent in yours. See the relevant style guide and a comparison of American and British English.

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

• Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
• Offer a correction if possible.
• References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
• Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 12:00 on 29 June 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
• Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
• Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
• No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
• Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
• Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

• The last hook: ... that the U.S. Army Air Corps were so unimpressed by the Estoppey D-8 that one member stated that he would rather use "nails and a wire"?
  In American English, that would be "was" instead of were. But the hook also anthropomorphizes the Corps. I'd recommend something like ... that some members of the U.S. Army Air Corps were so unimpressed by the Estoppey D-8 that one stated [... etc.] MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 23:16, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That Belgian castle - should change "The Tudor-style castle..." (unreffed in the article) to "The Renaissance Revival castle..." There is nothing Tudor at all about the style, which relates to more local Renaissance architecture. Johnbod (talk) 01:22, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In the POTD text, in the sentences now written

Commissioned by the de Viron family, which settled in Dilbeek in 1775, the castle was built in 1863 by Jean-Pierre Cluysenaar. The Renaissance Revival castle was built on the ruins of a 14th-century fortification that was destroyed in 1862.

there are verbs that describe actions which were complete before the castle was built. Thus, those verbs ought to be written in the past perfect tense. The two sentences might also be combined. As

Commissioned by the de Viron family—which had settled in Dilbeek in 1775—the Renaissance Revival castle was built in 1863 by Jean-Pierre Cluysenaar, on the ruins of a 14th-century fortification that had been destroyed the previous year.

Em dashes suit the information regarding the family's history, as it amplifies the context of the micro-narrative. My brief explanation omits details about the grammatical basis for the verb tense change, but I've no more time. —catsmoke ^talk 03:22, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
